History of The Highway 64 Project

Students have been writing and researching Highway 64 since the project began in 2012. Throughout the years, students have been producing valuable pieces of writing that act as an archive to see how these regions have changed throughout the years.

The Highway 64 Project is not a travel guide. This is an ongoing project, a living laboratory for the study of the rhetoric of travel writing. This site is run by Elon University students who strike out along historic Highway 64 in North Carolina and explore the intricacies of local food, culture, and landscape.

While you will find the ongoing reflections of college students here there are also restaurant reviews, descriptions of towns and communities, as well as profiles of interesting people and places. And this is travel writing perceived as a rich rhetorical endeavor, done with a clear sense of the history, tradition, and diverse nature of the genre itself.

Enjoy a look back in the archive below and enjoy reading the stories that continue to create a lasting conversation along Highway 64.
